Bespoke Commissions

At your initial consultation we will discuss your needs and ideas. You can bring any inspirations with you such as, pictures, colours or garments you already have. I can work from pictures, your imagination, or copy particular features of garments you have which you like. I can also remodel an existing garment (see more about alterations here).

There is no charge for your initial consultation or fittings. Depending on the design, you will probably need two to four fittings. I will let you know if I think you will need more fittings.

Quote

After the initial consultation I will provide you with a quote in writing. Cost for any materials will be billed separately from labour. I’ll estimate the time it will take me at £20 per hour. I will stick to this estimate unless the requirements change significantly. Most commissions will take upwards of 10 hours.

Timescale

The ideal timeframe for having a bespoke outfit designed and made especially for you is three months or longer. Sometimes I can take a commission with a shorter deadline depending on the schedule, the amount of work involved and how flexible you can be about fittings.

The final pick up date can be estimated when your commission is first booked. I aim to complete weddings or special events commissions one month prior to the event. If I’ve agreed to take on a rush order, I will complete the work in time.

Fabric Shopping

You can source your own fabric. I have many fabric samples in the studio and can offer advice on suppliers. If you would prefer me to source fabric for you, I will factor this into my labour costs and ask you to pay for any samples I order.

Deposits

A deposit is paid to book your commission in. The deposit will be the full cost of any materials you're ordering through me plus 25% of the estimated making cost. This is non-refundable.

Consultation and Fittings Appointments in Your Home

If visiting me at my studio for consultations or fittings is difficult ‘outside appointments’ can be arranged at your home or another convenient place. Depending on distance, there may be an additional charge for this.

Alterations

I will give you a price at the consultation.

Re-modelling

I will estimate time and quote as above. This is hugely variable depending on the work but prices will start from £20

Payment

I accept payments by cheque, direct bank transfer or cash (by arrangement). You'll be invoiced in writing for all monies received and owing.

Orders can be paid in instalments by arrangement. Full payment must have been received (and cleared) before finished items are handed over.

Cancellations and Refunds

Order Cancellations

As every commission is made-to-order there's a ‘no returns’ policy. However, I will be reasonable and fair about any cancellations.

Once contacted, I will immediately stop work and then only charge for the work already carried out. Any refund to you or further payments requested from you depends on the time at which the cancellation is made. If the deposit and any instalments received aren't sufficient to cover the work completed I will invoice you for the balance. Any materials and/or partly made items in my possession will be forfeit if payment is not made.

Materials and Partly-made Items

If you've ordered fabric through me and cancel before I have begun cutting the pattern, you'll be able to collect or arrange for delivery of your fabric at your own cost. I won't buy the fabric back from you but you may choose to leave it with me if you wish for a defined period. If you'd like to collect any partly-made items or materials, this can be arranged once any money owing for work/materials has been received.
